North Norfolk produced another fantastic away performance to return to winning ways against Bury. Travelling with 11 players it was always going to require a total effort from each player and that’s exactly what happened.
North Norfolk started strongly and threatened Bury early with some good crisp passing moves.
Everyone collectively held their breath when the influential Rachel Miles took a nasty high ball to the side of the knee. But true to form after a couple of minutes she was back up and hassling the Bury midfield into mistakes (even with a nice ball shaped egg on her knee).
It was a physical close affair and both teams went close with short corners.
Somewhat against the run of play Bury took the lead when they just managed the squeeze the ball past super stand in keeper Sharon Harvey-Weeks.
1-0 at half time.....
In the second half North Norfolk didn’t let heads drop at all and were the better team causing Bury to bicker, always a good sign.
They deservedly equalised when a Bury foot stopped the ball on the line resulting in a flick. Never in doubt....up stepped Charlotte Fiske to calmly put a fabulous flick into the corner. 1-1...
Bury threatened still but North Norfolk were looking more likely to score, and they did when a quick move and cross down the right from Lucy Spencer to Hanna Hall who’s first time effort was saved by the keeper only for Ellen Vanlint to follow up and score to make it 2-1.
There’s always drama away in Bury though so the ladies knew they would have to battle it out for the remaining 10 minutes to claim the 3 points.
And battle it out we did, couple of great saves and clearances off the line before Bury had a short corner on the final whistle...
All or nothing now and Bury crowded round the circle as the ball was swept out. A few passes later the ball was in the goal but unfortunately for Bury they had neglected to take the ball outside the D from the short corner so a sixteen was awarded and followed by the final whistle.
A massive 3 points for the ladies and a great game to win.
Colchester visit cromer for the last home game of the year next week.
