Ladies 1s Match Report
North Norfolk Ladies had a hot run around in their opening home game against IES on Saturday. With Hannah Wait out for a third season due to ACL damage now in her left knee, all she could do was watch from the sideline (and write this report)! But Sunny Cromer tested both teams as the heat was rising in the first half. Some great midfield work from Charlotte Fiske, Rachel Miles and Hanna Hall meant passing the ball around the pitch to the wings to reach Lucy Spencer and Hannah Catling, was working well. Some more hot battling minutes later and North Norfolk saw themselves winning a penalty corner. Catling injecting out to Ellen Vanlint meant Ellen could test the water and have a strike on goal. Saved. But North didn’t stop there and they soon found themselves winning another penalty corner but this again was blocked and saved.
IES knew they had to work hard and they soon found themselves working down the pitch to get into North’s D but some great defensive work from Lisa Trussell, Julie Mercer, Rachel Sayer and Rebecca Hart meant the ball went no further and was soon back up the pitch to North’s midfield and wingers!
2 more penalty corners later and after some passing in the D, Ellen Vanlint put North Norfolk ahead before half time 1-0.
Few changes at half time, Rebecca Hart having to leave meant Jemma Falconer had her time to shine with some great running upfront and down the line. IES came into this second half tougher than ever and 5 minutes in they equalised, there was nothing more Louise Potter-Wood could’ve done in goal! 1-1
Both IES and North Norfolk battled on in the heat but 20 more minutes passed and IES went ahead, 2-1
Unfortunately after some great work from the whole North Norfolk side, they soon saw themselves conceding a further two 2 goals. Great work from both sides with some strong points to take away ready for North’s next weeks game away at St Neots.
