The men’s 1s completed the first round of fixtures with a 2-1 victory over UEA II to remain top of the division. The team showed a few changes from the week before with Callum Gibson making a return from abroad and Craig Grice stepping up to make his first team debut.
A fast tempo start saw North create scoring opportunities but failed to find the finishing touch and whilst UEA had plenty of possession, solid defence and goalkeeping kept chances to a minimum.
The deadlock was broken just before half time when some intricate passing in D ended with Gibson slotting home for a rare goal.
This lead was doubled quickly after the break when Henry Sayer deflected in at the far post after an excellent ball in from Tom Nichols. UEA worked hard to get back into the game and whilst North had chances of their own couldn’t find a third. The students eventually pulled a goal back very late but not enough time remained for them to really push for an equaliser.
Overall a solid performance to end an excellent first half of the season.
