2s come out on top in excellent match

North Norfolk Men’s 2s and 3s faced off at Cromer in a inter club clash which had the added spice of deciding who would sit top of the league.
The 2s had much of the early possession but were met by a firm 3s defence before a reverse stick strike from Will Faye found the bottom the corner. Alex Robinson then doubled the lead with a firm strike. Play was interrupted when 2s captain Callum Searle took an accidental high ball to the head and was sent up the road to be stitched up, though this did bring about the long- awaited return to the field of Tom Whitwood.
The 3s looked dangerous on the counter attack and some skilful play from Jonny Mills won a short corner however couldn’t beat Leon Waldron with the strike.
The 2s nearly added to their lead from a short corner of their own but Craig Farrows flick came back off the post in what was the final play of the half.
The second half continued in similar vein, with the 2s looking to use the pace of Craig Grice and Alfie Edwards on the wings but solid defence and some fine saves from Alex Lambkin initially kept them at bay. Though 2s increased the lead when Faye scored a neat deflection before completing his hattrick.
Still the 3s managed to open 2s defence on a number of occasions and Ian Roberson came close to pulling a goal back with well struck shot but again couldn’t beat Waldron.
Whitwood then rounded off the scoring when he converted Robinsons cross.
Both teams should be commended for a match that was played with excellent spirit and attitude.
