Ladies score Blackjack..

Ladies 2s

North Norfolk Ladies 2s were high in spirits as they went into their final game before the Christmas break. After last weeks 11-0 win, captain Izzy Christophers was keen to replicate the strong defence (not a single goal conceded so far this season) and high scoring rate in order to keep them securely at the top of the table. With much thought and deliberation the 11 strong team took the tactical decision to play with no keeper and put their trust in the back line of Amy Story, Jane Delph, Sarah Powell and Bobbie Pye.
The game started with North Norfolk attacking in numbers and with midfields Frankie Howard and Jen Marshall working some fantastic passes to get the ball through to Sarah Elliot to slot in the first goal.
Sue Whiteley working tirelessly in the D to make space was quickly rewarded with the first goal of many for her. Watton had a few good breaks with young legs pushing back the midfield, but with great tackles in defence by Bobbie Pye and Amy East followed by some sublime triangular play from Jen and, new recruit, Fran Musgrove, North Norfolk where able to move forward with confidence.

At 3-0 after 20mins, the team took a blow when midfielder Leah High pulled up with a previously pulled hamstring that had come back with a vengeance. Leah hobbled to the dugout but continued to supported her team with great advise and cheers as the goals kept coming.

However, on a quick Watton break, Powell thought she was on strictly come dancing with some fancy, and at the same time shocking, footwork inside the D resulting in awarding Watton the first short corner of the game. With no keeper nerves were high! A well hit straight strike from the top of the D was, as ever, calmly stopped and distributed by the ‘never retiring’ stick of Jane Delph.

Captain Christophers took her chance at the other end of the field to push the score to 4-0 and then the energetic duo of Sarah and Sue up front bagged another one each. Half time saw a 6-0 score line and relived faces with the decision to play without a keeper.

The second half saw much of the same, however North Norfolk legs started to look a little tired and the youth of 5 or 6 of the Watton players started to press. Bobbie Pye however had endless space on the right to feed the ball through to the ‘quick as lightening’ Fran on the wing.

Goals kept coming giving a final whistle total of 5x Sue W, 4x Sarah E, 2x Izzy C and 1x Fran (Janie was credited with a assist).

A great 12-0 win and an even better clean sheet to finish the first halt of the season with 7 wins out of 7, 47 goals bagged and not a single goal conceded. Enjoy a well earned break ladies.
